Looking back at the 2017 Season provided plenty of surprises – we had a first time Super Bowl champion, in addition to a team known for Passing lead the league in fantasy rushing points (NO).
While New Orleans (1) may have blown the NFC Championship game in the final seconds – they took it to the ship in the regular season in terms of fantasy rushing production. Mark Ingram* & Alvin Kamara proved they are not be to stop but only contained- if you’re lucky (and in the regular season).
Not surprising they were followed closely by the Jaguars & Leonard Fornette (2), Zeke & the boys(3), and the Panthers(4). Cam Newton is still running the ball into the end-zone, and Christian McCaffrey is quite the dynamic threat for a PPR league as well. We knew Todd Gurley and the Rams (5) would come into the mix as his production and numbers were undeniable.
Now let’s get to the numbers, shockingly the Saints were not even above the 75% mark in terms of rushing attempts (444) for the season, however they lead in almost every Rushing category. The Jaguars led the league in rushing attempts (527), yards (2,262), and were second in fantasy rushing points (334). This would make Leonard Fournette a great choice for any Standard format league if he can stay healthy.
Of course we had to take this a step further, classifying each rushing offense in regards to where they fell against their peers. The teams in the top 75% of the rushing metrics are shown in Green, while those beating the league average are in Yellow.
We also gave them our trademarked Tier Rankings, scoring those in the top 75% with a 2 point value & those beating the average with 1 point. The Tier were graded based on the following score table:
Somehow the Patriots snuck into the Top 8, from a drafting perspective I may prefer a workhorse being fed the ball more on the Bills or Philly. Especially given Bill Belicheck’s history of switching running backs on weekly basis.
The chart below has all 32 teams and is complimented with some notes below it:
